In search of the Bengal tiger
This tour not only gives you the best chance to see the tiger in its natural habitat, but also a good level of comfort in the jungle lodge.
India is home to about 10% of the world’s wildlife. So it is not surprising that this is home to a large variety of mammals. India houses the largest variety of wild cats in the world, including the Bengali King Tiger. According to the WWF report from 2016, the global tiger population is estimated at 3890. The largest part of these wild tigers lives today in India with about 2200 tigers. This makes India the best destination in the world to see this majestic cat in its natural habitat.
Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve:
The Tadoba Andheri Tiger Reserve is the second largest park in Maharashtra with a core area of 625 km² and a larger buffer zone of 1102 km². The park takes its name from the legend – Taru, who was a village chief who was killed in a mythological encounter with a tiger. A shrine dedicated to the god Taru now exists under a huge tree on the banks of Lake Tadobase. „Andhari“ is derived from the name of a river of the same name.
The park is today one of the best places to see the Bengal tiger in its natural habitat. Teak is the predominant tree species. Other deciduous trees are Ain (crocodile bark), Bija, Dhauda, Haldu, Salai, Semal and Tendu. Beheda, Hirda, Karaya Gum and Mahua are other common species.
Bamboo Jungle Lodge:
Bamboo Forest Jungle Lodge is a luxurious lodge near the Kolara Gate of the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve. The lodge is on the edge of a seasonal lake – a great place for bird watching and reptile and amphibious hunting. The lodge currently has three naturalists who accompany their guests into the park and help interpret the sights, sounds and smells of the jungle and find the big cat to look for.

Mammals: Sloth Bear, Dhole (Asiatic wild dog), Gaur (Indian bison), Flying Squirrel, Golden Jackal, Indian Fox and if lucky you might see the Indian Pangolin and the Honey Badger
Birds: Indian Peafowl, Paradise Flycatcher, Golden Oriole, Indian Pitta, 4-5 species of Woodpeckers, 3-4 species of Kingfishers, Crested Serpent Eagle, Changeable Hawk Eagle along with 250 other species of birds.
Reptiles: Marsh Crocodile, Indian Rock Monitor, Rock Agama, Chameleon, Fan-throated Lizard, Russell’s Viper, Indian Rock Python, Spectacled Cobra and many more.
